What is Dental Bonding?
If your front teeth are chipped, cracked, or have spaces and gaps, cosmetic dental bonding can be a helpful way to correct your smile and improve the way that it looks. Bonding uses a material known as composite resin, which is tooth-colored. We match the composite resin to your smile so that the material blends in flawlessly. Bonding can last for about 10 or more years before we recommend it be replaced.
Why is Dental Bonding needed?
Bonding normally does not require any type of anesthetic to apply it to the front of your smile. Bonding is more of a cosmetic procedure, since it works to perfect the shape and size of a tooth that has been damaged or is flawed. Some of the problems that bonding can take care of include:
- Gaps and spaces between teeth
- Chipped or cracked teeth
- Uneven teeth
- Discoloration and deep stains
Who is a good candidate for Dental Bonding?
Dr. Ju will examine your smile to determine if you would benefit from the bonding procedure. Bonding is done quickly and easily, and most patients will not even need anesthetic. If you have a chipped or cracked tooth, we often recommend bonding as soon as possible to prevent damage to soft tissue within the mouth. Bonding can even help to boost your confidence by improving your smile.
What happens during the Dental Bonding procedure?
The first step is to apply a bonding gel agent to the front teeth. Dr. Ju then carefully matches the color of the bonding with the tooth so that it is not noticeable once placed. The material is then placed over the tooth and detailed to blend in well with the rest of your dentition. The composite resin is then cured several times with a special light to set it in place. You can then experience a fuller and healthier-looking smile that will last for many years.
