Teeth Whitening

What is Teeth Whitening?

It is not uncommon to have teeth that aren’t perfectly white. However, if your teeth are severely stained or discolored, or if you’re tired of not being happy with your smile, it might be time to consider whitening. In-office and take-home whitening are ideal for patients wanting a brighter and more beautiful smile. We offer several professional whitening options that are suited to our patients’ needs.

Why is Teeth Whitening needed?

Many different things can cause your teeth to turn yellow and dull. Regardless of what you do, just the act of aging can play a part in how your teeth look. Some of the different reasons your teeth may become stained include:

  • Smoking and smokeless tobacco
  • Coffee, tea and soda drinking
  • Certain medications
  • Aging
  • Staining foods (berries, chocolate)
  • Poor oral hygiene
  • Skipping professional dental care

Who Is A Candidate For Teeth Whitening

Who is a candidate for Teeth Whitening?

Most patients who want to whiten their teeth can safely have this particular procedure done. We can perform an exam to determine the type of whitening that’s right for you. Keep in mind that even professional whitening will not whiten restorations any more than when they were first placed. Whitening is best suited for natural teeth in need of a transformation.

What happens during Teeth Whitening?

For in-office whitening, one of our staff members will carefully apply a controlled gel to your teeth. A light can be used to accelerate your results. You will achieve a bright white smile in less than hour, and can maintain results at home using special products. We offer a take-home whitening option for patients wanting something they can do themselves in their own bedrooms or bathrooms. This whitening involves creating customized trays that are made using impressions. These trays are used in conjunction with a special whitening gel formula that lifts and dissolves stains. You will be instructed on how often and how long to wear the trays at home.
