Esthetic Crown Lengthening in Simi Valley
What is Esthetic Crown Lengthening?
Esthetic crown lengthening is a surgical procedure that helps to reshape the gums around the teeth. If you have a “gummy” or “short” smile, esthetic crown lengthening can help to improve the look of your teeth and improve your confidence. This procedure may be needed if a typical crown isn’t able to fit over a tooth properly due to excess gum tissue. The surgery itself involves removing excess gum tissue to reveal more healthy tooth structure underneath.
Why is Esthetic Crown Lengthening needed?
Esthetic crown lengthening is often needed, or wanted, for cosmetic reasons. You may be tired of having a short and “gummy” smile. You might not feel as though you can smile fully because of the way that your teeth look. Crown lengthening in general can be utilized to help restorations fit more appropriately over teeth.

Who is a candidate for Esthetic Crown Lengthening?
Most patients who want or even need crown lengthening can have the procedure done. Dr. Ju will consult with you and perform an exam to ensure that the procedure is right for you. You should be healthy enough to undergo oral surgery. Crown lengthening can be done for both cosmetic and restorative reasons.
What happens during Esthetic Crown Lengthening?
First, Dr. Ju will administer a local anesthetic to numb the area. Sedatives are available to help further relax you during surgery. The excess gum tissue is removed from the teeth, and the gums are contoured to create a healthy, full smile. Sutures are typically placed to keep the gum tissue pulled back until it is able to heal. You may feel some pain after the procedure, but over-the-counter pain relievers can often help to reduce this discomfort. You will be given aftercare instructions that must be followed in order to help the gums heal properly.
